Marianne Weil’s abstract bronze and glass sculptures are created using the lost-wax casting process. Each unique work is constructed from wax—assembled, welded, chased and patinated in her Orient, New York studio. Recent sculpture combines welded upcycled bronze with newly cast bronze in combination with glass.  Weil frequently incorporates printmaking into her studio practice to provide a window into her creative process.

Numerous international awards, grants and visual artist residencies include: several MacDowell Colony Fellowships, an Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant, Hospitalfield Trust award, Tyrone Guthrie Centre Fellowship, Fondaçion Valparaiso Grant, Casa de Mateus Foundation and a 2005-06 New York State Council for the Arts Community Connection Grant for a public art installation for the Village of Greenport, New York. A bronze commission for the Village of Water Mill, New York and the Order of the Sisters of St. Dominic is installed on the Water Mill Village green.  Weil has received four PSC-CUNY research awards for her creative scholarship combining glass and bronze.

Weil received her B.A. in sculpture from Goddard College and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from the School of Visual Arts. Her sculpture training continued in Pietrasanta, Italy, apprenticing both foundry artisans and stone carvers. Prior to her 2009 teaching appointment at CUNY, Weil taught sculpture at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Haverford College, where she received several Mellon grants to collaborate with Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr College faculty on interdisciplinary projects in art history, anthropology and archaeology. Weil is a tenured Associate Professor of Sculpture at the City University of New York, College of Staten Island.

Weil’s sculpture is exhibited internationally, featured in public and private collections here and abroad and  represented by  ILLE Arts, Amagansett, New York.
